The main Catalina Island ferry services are: Catalina Express, Catalina Classic Cruises, Catalina Flyer, Catalina Explorer, and Catalina Ferries.
Catalina Express runs regular ferry service leaves Long Beach, San Pedro and Dana Point. Catalina Express high speed catamarans complete the trip to the island in about an hour depending on conditions. Add an extra 15 minutes if you are departing from San Pedro.
There are two departure points in Long Beach, one at the Queen Mary and the other downtown at the Catalina Landing. Round trip fares cost $59.00 for adults, $53.00 for seniors and $45.50 for children 2-12. Parking in the provided lot is available for $12/day. Upgrades to the Captains cabin or commodore lounge (leather seats) are extra. Pets are allowed as long as they travel in an approved carrying case.

Enjoy a longer 2 hour cruise - once a day - during summer weekends. You will enjoy the cruise on the largest of all Catalina passenger boats, the Catalina King. They also operate another smaller boat - the Catalina Dutchess. This is another option to consider for visitors who choose to enjoy the scenic ride over to the island in luxury. Catalina Classic Cruises leave from the Queen Mary port in Long Beach. The Catalina Flyer is a triple decker catamaran offering service departing from Newport Beach to Catalina Island. Catalina Flyer departs from Balboa Pavilion, the trip takes about an hour and fifteen minutes. Departure time is once daily at 9 am and return is at 4:30 pm. The Catalina Explorer is also a three level ferry and leaves from the Pine Avenue Pier in Long Beach once daily. The trip to Catalina takes about an hour and fifteen minutes and costs $52.00 round trip for adults, $48.00 round trip for seniors and $40.00 round trip for children 3-11. Catalina Ferries depart form Marina del Rey. This is a great option for people who live on the West Side or in the Valley. Catalina Ferries offer a one and a half hour cruise to Avalon and passengers can opt to continue another half hour to the port of Two Harbors. Departures are once daily during the summer season or Friday through Sunday during the off season. Round trip tickets are $69.00 for adults, $64.00 for seniors and $53.00 for children. The ferry ride to Catalina is a lot of fun and chances are, you will be accompanied by dolphins, whale sightings are not uncommon during peak months. It is not necessary to upgrade your ticket to commodores or captains lounge, the regular seats are quite comfortable and you are sure to enjoy the smooth ride over to the island.
